Classic Rock News Roundup

bob_dylan.jpg One of Canada's largest record store chains has removed all Bob Dylan albums, to protest the way Dylan's latest release is being marketed. Bob Dylan: Live At The Gaslight 1962 is only available at Starbucks, which prompted HMV Canada to pull all of its Dylan discs for as long as the Starbucks promotion lasts.

Jimi Hendrix's boyhood home has found a new home. Just a few days shy of the 35th anniversary of Hendrix's death, hendrix_experience.jpgthe only house the Hendrix family ever owned when the artist was a child has been moved across the street from the cemetery where Hendrix is buried. The city of Seattle had been threatening to demolish the house if it wasn't moved.

Speaking of Hendrix, his heirs have filed a second lawsuit against Britain's Purple Haze Records in an effort to stop them from selling bootleg Hendrix performances. Earlier this year, a London court ruled that Purple Haze illegally sold recordings of a 1969 Hendrix concert in Sweden.

Depeche Mode fans who pre-order the downloadable digital version of the group's upcoming album will get first crack at tickets for the band's winter tour. The deal between Ticketmaster and Apple's iTunes Music Store is the first involving digital downloads. Playing the Angel is due to be released October 18.

ramones.jpgPunk rockers The Ramones are the subject of a museum that opens this week (September 16) in Berlin. There are also reports that the group, which was the subject of a 2004 documentary, will soon be the subject of a feature film. The punk pioneers seem to be getting more recognition now than before the group disbanded in 1996.
